Are You Aging Quickly Or Slowly?
3 Psychological Profiles That Reveal the Answer
Issue #463 – Monday, February 17, 2025

Today there are more folks reaching their 70s, 80, 90s and beyond than ever before in our history. This is largely due to our more advanced healthcare treatments and scientific breakthroughs that can help extend our lifespans.
But while there are more people reaching these ages than ever before, there’s also a grim reality that comes along with that.
Many of the folks who reach these ages are struggling with issues that science hasn’t found a remedy for yet.
The Price of Aging
There are three major factors that you become more at-risk for as you age. These factors are:
Cognitive Decline
As the brain ages, its ability to transport information between hemispheres slows down, it becomes more rigid, hormones become unbalanced, and uncleansed “neuro-waste” like tau tangles and brain plaque starts to build up, leading to cognitive issues like dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Chronic Illnesses
There are some illnesses that aren’t immediately fatal, but that can create major problems for your quality of life. Many people who reach the later years tend to bring at least one of these issues along with them: diabetes, chronic pain, heart problems, respiratory issues, hearing and vision problems, and much more.
Social Isolation
One of the most devastating effects of aging for many folks is the fact that they end up alone. Their peers or partners have either passed away or are no longer able to visit. Their family is not nearby or there is drama keeping them out of the picture. Add in the fact that many folks at the older ages simply aren’t as mobile as they used to be, and it’s no surprise that they develop depression and other mental health challenges.
We Don’t Age the Same
Is it possible to live to be close to 100 years old without suffering from cognitive decline, chronic illness or social isolation?
The answer is - yes!
Just understand that there’s no guarantee. For example, an Olympic athlete in the best shape of their life could still develop cancer. There are just some things you can’t control.
But the things you can control make a huge difference in how fast or how slow you age. And by that, I mean how quickly or slowly your brain and body start to show signs of aging.
If you do the right things, you can still set yourself up to have the best chance of reaching a higher age without the common problems that can prevent you from enjoying your life.
To that end, scientists have found that one of the most crucial things that can determine how fast or how slowly you age is your “psychological profile” - aka your mindset!
The Three Psychological Profiles That Determine Your Aging
A recent international study out of the University of Barcelona is making the case that older adults should get a psychological exam to determine whether they fall into one of three psychological profiles.
The reasoning behind this is due to overwhelming evidence that each profile presents certain risk factors and protection factors related to aging, and if their primary care physician took their psychological profile into account, they could more effectively provide treatment.
Risk factors include things like having repetitive negative thoughts, a tendency to experience distress, brooding, neuroticism, and perceived stress levels.
Protective factors include things like having a sense of purpose in life, being open to new experiences, being conscientious of others and engaging in regular self-reflection.
These risk and protective factors combine into three profiles:
High Risk
A “high risk” profile means that the subject contains high levels of risky psychological traits, such as excessive distress and negative thoughts. Scientists say that these factors have a major impact on whether the subject develops depression, anxiety, cognitive complaints, loneliness or sleep disorders, all of which lead to cognitive issues over time. But the results were already visible for many subjects. Those who fell into this group showed the most signs of aging - even early on. Their brains had the thinnest cortical thickness, meaning their “brain age” was far older than their chronological age.
Low Protection
The “low protection” profile means that the subject does not have the protective factors that keep the brain sharp as we age. They aren’t open to new things, they feel as if they don’t have a purpose in life, they are more negative about themselves and others. While not as extreme as the high risk group, the lack of protective factors correlated with poorer cognition, more pronounced brain atrophy (already observable in middle-aged adults), and lower adherence to healthy lifestyles. Their “brain age” tends to be older than their chronological age and they have a decent likelihood of developing health problems and cognitive issues in the future.
Well-balanced (High Protection, Low Risk)
A “well-balanced” profile is the group that ages the slowest. Those in this group have moderately high protection factors and moderately low risk factors. These folks tend to have healthier lifestyles, and they have better cognitive and mental health in all indicators measured for the study. They are more open, more conscientious, more self-reflective and believe they have a purpose in life. Their brain scans reveal brains that have more cortical thickness than the other groups, and their “brain age” matches or is younger than their chronological age.
You Can Change Your Profile
It’s clear that those in the “well-balanced” profile have a major advantage when it comes to enjoying their lives as they age.
But remember - our brains aren’t set in stone. Even if you fall into a high risk or low protective profile now, there are steps you can take to change your mindset, drop the risky traits, and start to pick up those protective traits.
While major risk factors like depression, brooding, and neuroticism can be tough holes to climb out of, they aren’t impossible. And fittingly, what helps with that are the protective factors - things like self-reflection, choosing a purpose, being open to new experiences and being conscientious of others. You can consciously choose to adopt these.
It’s not easy to change from one psychological profile to another. It’s not going to happen overnight. But one thing that can really help is meditation - especially with Holosync, which makes changing your mindset much easier than other methods.
That’s because Holosync is uniquely effective at fostering the kind of awareness you need to realize in the moment when you’re choosing a risk factor (like brooding), so you can instead change your focus to a protection factor (like openness to new experiences). It’s this kind of awareness that is the catalyst of making these pivotal changes in your life.
But Holosync can do much more than that!
From balancing brain chemistry to improving cross-hemispheric activity, Holosync’s unique neuro-audio technology gives you a major advantage when it comes to getting a brain and a lifestyle that sets you up with the best chance of aging with a clear mind and a healthy body.
By the way, we are about to release the most effective Holosync solution specifically designed to help slow and even reverse your aging!
